So here is part 2 of our best vegan restaurants in Ubud Bali
BEST DRINK: Jasmine and Rosella Kombucha at Bali Buddha
My favorite drink are the Kombuchas at Bali Buddha, Kombucha is a pro-biotic made from a kombucha “scoby”, other benefits is that it actually helps lubricates your joints which is huge for athletes. The Jasmine Kombucha taste like sweet ice tea soda while the Rosella Kombucha taste like red wine. I wasn’t able to take a picture of the actual kombucha but if you go to Bali Buddha you have to try this out! Simple and delicious.
BEST LOCAL DISH: Vegan Nasi Campur at Bali Buddha
Funny story is that when I first began eating this dish I didn’t realize that you were supposed to mix all the ingredients. They serve you Nasi campur with all the ingredients neatly spread out in your plate. After I realized that I was suppose to mix everything, the taste of peanuts, tempeh (fermented soybeans), organic vegetables, brown rice and all the other spices involve was amazing. This is a local dish in Indonesia, and ever since I tasted this I have been craving for it ever since. If you wish to make your Nasi Campur 100% like what I did, just request to remove the egg.
BEST RESTAURANT: 5 Elements
Definitely, the best restaurant in Ubud is the restaurant in 5 Elements. The food is 100% raw and plant based. Don’t let that discourage you because the food is simply amazing. The level of creativity and innovation is unparalleled and ranks as one of the best restaurants we have tried. I highly recommend their Raw Pizza and Purple potato dish. 5 Elements is set in a secluded and beautiful resort next to a river, when we were dining one of the princes of Abu Dhabi was actually dining at the same time. The Chef, Made, is extremely friendly and personable. He makes a point to sit down with the guests and socialize regarding the food. It is a little bit pricey being a fine dining restaurant, but we highly recommend this place if you have the budget as you won’t be disappointed.
We started off with a green juice and their sampler platter, you can actually choose the 3-course meal where you choose an appetizer, an entree which can be this sample platter of all the dishes and a dessert.
You have to try this Raw Vegan Cheesy Pizza, they served it like a taco but it was extremely delicious one of the best ones I have tried on the trip.
This purple potato raw vegan dish was the BEST! The medley of flavors was so exquisite, I couldn’t help but take my time eating the dish and appreciating every bite. The food is truly ART. I really appreciate how the chef was able to bring out the flavors of raw plant-based dishes. In my opinion, the level of creativity involved in preparing the food as well as the flavors of plant-based cuisine cannot be matched by anything in the traditional meat-based cooking.
We finished off with dessert, we ended up ordering a ton of food but again the food was extremely worth it. If you would choose a place to splurge on food while visiting Ubud. I highly recommend this place. The food rivals the best restaurants all over the world for a fraction of the price.
