Hi! Welcome to The Superfood Grocer. We are two people who are passionate about reaching out, awakening, inspiring, and empowering others to choose to live superlives. We started this as a response to our parents, grandparents, titos, titas, co-workers, and fellow Filipinos who are increasingly being diagnosed with lifestyle diseases (diabetes, heart disease, cancer, among others) and who are experiencing milder symptoms of imbalance (cravings, low energy, difficulty sleeping, frequent sickness, etc.) even in their younger years, as a result of a lack of misinformed daily decision on diet and lifestyle.
We’re here to help — to wake you up, shake you up, and empower you to take action and take charge of your health. We also get thrilled when you connect with us and send us messages about your personal challenges. We hope that this series of learning modules will help you and empower you to proactively choose to live out your most rockin’ and most vibrant life.
Live right. Choose to live a Superlife!
Much support from us,

What you’re going to learn in this module:
- Why we crave and end up overeating (and gaining weight)
- How to stay full (and keep your stomach happy) longer
- The 2-Minute Power Tip To Conquer Cravings Even Without Will Power
Ever experienced going on a BIG lunch feast — double cups of white rice, two servings of ulam, and an extra-indulgent dessert — only to find yourself a couple of hours later, craving and hungry again?
We hear ya. Most of us consider cravings a shared experience, something not to take too seriously. That’s all well and good — until we find ourselves:
> overeating (taking in unnecessary calories) and gaining weight > going on emotional roller coasters from sugar highs and sugar crashes > feeling lethargic, low in energy, and sleepy in the middle of the day > and perhaps eventually, diagnosed with onset diabetes (less of genetics, but more of the result of our accumulated daily lifestyle decisions over time)
Being a slave to cravings is not fun. You can still enjoy good food, yes — but this time, at your own terms. Allow us to empower you through knowledge.
1. Nutrients: What does it mean when we feel hungry?
Here’s an eye-opener: When we feel hungry, our body is actually sending a signal to our brain that it needs nutrients. The problem is, our commonly accepted modern Filipino diet is usually lacking in nutrients. Think about it — white rice, fried food, sugar-packed beverages, decadent desserts. No greens.
Take a hard look — How much fresh green veggies do we eat in a day? How many servings of fresh fruits? What is the usual color scheme of our typical meal (You know it’s either brown/orange/red + white + brownish black if matched with soda. Rarely do we see vibrant colors of green there except maybe as a garnish on the side). Our unspoken socially accepted rule of thumb: No meal is ever complete without white rice, but veggies are just optional bonuses.
Now, this is what happens: After we eat our feast, we usually find ourselves hungry again only a couple of hours later. Our body was looking for nutrients, but since it still didn’t get it, it starts to crave. Now it really wants those nutrients!
Humans were given a natural sweet tooth for a reason. When we start craving for cakes, ice cream, pastries — remember that these sweets don’t exist in nature. In nature, the real natural solution to our sweet cravings would be fruits. In other words, when we crave, we are so imbalanced and our bodies are hardwired to alert us and let us know that it desperately needs the nutrients found in nature.
Sometimes we find ourselves appeased when we finally have our fill of sweets in the form of refined sugar and carbs. But this is only in the short term. It is cheap quick fix, and soon enough, we will find ourselves in a vicious cycle of nutritional stress, low energy, sugar crashes, excess weight, and an overall feeling of not being our best, healthiest, most vibrant selves.
2. Volume: Feeling like a bottomless pit that can eat forever?
The second factor through which the body considers itself full and satisfied is in terms of volume (not weight). This comes in the form of fiber (especially abundant in fresh fruits and veggies!). Usually, the foods we eat cheap are high in calories, low in nutrients, and very low in fiber (Side note: Our staple, white rice, is actually originally brown rice that was refined and stripped of its fiber). This allows us to eat more high-calorie foods without feeling full. Take a look at this reference image of the stomach from Dr. Joel Fuhrman:
Raw fruits and veggies are high in fiber that keeps us full for longer periods of time and flushes out toxins in our body. They are also high in nutrients, and low in calories, keeping us from overeating unnecessarily as they already do an awesome job filling us up biochemically (nutrients) and mechanically (volume).

The 2-Minute Power Tip To Conquering Those Cravings Without Will Power
The key to overcoming cravings is to make sure we eat nutrient-rich foods while keeping ourselves full with naturally fiber-rich foods — exactly what our body needs. Again, craving is a sign that your body is imbalanced / not getting enough nutrients, and it’s desperately alarming you to get some in quick. Have these bases covered, and you won’t be craving, to begin with.
The easiest way to address our nutritional and fiber needs is to add a super green smoothie to our diet.
A super green smoothie is the easiest way for the body to take in all nutrients it needs in one delicious glass. It powerfully combines both living foods (a ton of raw fruits and veggies that are easier to blend and drink up than chew!) and superfoods (foods with superior nutritional value). The best part? It tastes just like a fruit shake and it only takes 3 minutes to make.
What are superfoods? Superfoods are foods that have higher nutritional content than standard foods. They are nutrient powerhouses that pack in large doses of vitamins, minerals, and phytonutrients. Maca particularly stands out when it comes to boosting energy, improving sleep, curbing cravings, and balancing hormones (relieves menstrual cramps and eases symptoms of menopause). For athletes, maca is highly acclaimed for increased energy, longer endurance, and faster recovery. Check out testimonials here.
Here’s a basic recipe for a super green smoothie:
- Handful of fresh greens (e.g. kangkong)
- Fresh fruits for base (1-2 frozen bananas)
- Add-on fruits (1/2 to 1 whole ripe mango or 1/2 cup of frozen strawberries)
- Superfoods (We have Superfood StarterPacks for you below. Starts at P999 for 1 set, good for 1 month)
- 3-4 ice cubes
- 1.5 cups of cold water of fresh coconut water
Simply pop into the blender, blend, enjoy!
